Charm Cities is set in the fictional nation of Cheloni, loosely based on the history and geography of the United States and Canada. From the player's perspective, the national government of Cheloni is important primarily because it provides subsidies to fund the capital and operating budgets of various services in the nation's cities and towns. While smaller cities receive funding based on a standardized formula determined by the state of the national conversation, sufficiently large cities will need to use their national political capital to ensure that they aren't cut off from funding by a hostile legislature.
The player interacts with the national government by way of their representative.
